Spring is upon us in Harvey, LA and while you may need to occasionally use your heating system at night, it’s time to get your system ready for summer. Read on to learn about four ways to get your HVAC system ready for warmer temperatures.
1. Change the VHAC System Air Filter
The air filter removes contaminants in the air and prevents them from impacting your indoor air quality and clogging your HVAC system. Be sure to check your filter regularly for best HVAC efficiency, and make sure to replace the air filter every quarter or more frequently as needed.
2. Check the HVAC System Air Vents
Blocked air vents make it difficult for your HVAC system to heat or cool your home. When that happens, some areas of your home won’t feel as comfortable. Make sure the vents are open and that you don’t have anything in front of the vents, such as furniture or curtains.
3. Clean the HVAC System
Even if you use your HVAC unit during the winter months, you still need to clean around the system on a regular basis. Remove any debris on and around the outside HVAC unit, this includes branches, leaves or any encroaching vegetation. Routine maintenance helps to improve HVAC efficiency.
4. Examine the Thermostat
Examine your thermostat to ensure it’s in proper working order. If there’s not enough power to the thermostat, it will cause your HVAC system to run constantly, short-cycle, or not engage at all. To check your thermostat, shut off electricity to the unit and remove the thermostat cover. Clear away any dust or debris with canned air and put the cover back on. Other issues may require the services of a professional HVAC technician.
